Demot O'Leary quit X Factor last month.

After the news broke last night, Dermot tweeted his good friends, joking: "Huge congrats to @ollyofficial and @carolineflack1 be gentle with the old girl... that's the show, not Louis."

Strictly Come Dancing champion Caroline replied: "@radioleary thank you Dermot.... You're the BEST! A true gentleman and my absolute favourite."

And 'Troublemaker' singer Olly told Dermot he'd be calling him up for tips!

Olly replied: "Aw love ya brother!! Me & @carolineflack1 will be on speed dial every weekend ringing ya."

X Factor is familiar ground for Caroline and Olly, as they previously presented spin-off show The Xtra Factor together for two years on ITV2, and became a popular and much-loved presenting team.

Olly and Caroline will replace Dermot as main hosts.

X Factor boss Simon Cowell said in a statement: "I am absolutely delighted Caroline and Olly are both returning to The X Factor. When they were on Xtra together, they were a brilliant double act.

"Since then, Caroline's gone from strength to strength – and Olly has become one of Britain's biggest stars. So now I'm looking forward to them fronting the main show."

Olly and Caroline's stint as co-hosts on the main stage makes them the first ever duo to host the ITV talent competition.
