Avril Lavigne's husband Chad Kroeger has said he's thankful her battle with Lyme Disease is public knowledge, as he's had to keep quiet about his wife's well being for months.

The Nickelback frontman told KISS FM in Australia that he'd constantly been asked if Avril was okay by concerned friends and fans but had never been able to give a proper answer.

Now, she's come out and discussed her diagnosis in an interview.

Chad told the radio station: "I'm like, Okay, the wife has come out and said this, and now I don't have to keep hiding. With everyone going 'What's wrong with your wife? What's wrong with your wife?' and me just going, 'Ah, she's gonna be fine.' I'm like 'Okay, I can talk about this now.'

He added that "things are looking up" for Avril.

Fans had known that 'Complicated' singer Avril was unwell last year, but it was only last week that she publicly disclosed her Lyme Disease diagnosis. It's a bacterial infection spread to humans by infected ticks that causes symptoms including fatigue, joint pain, rash and fever.

Avril was left bedridden for five months, admitting to People: "I thought I was dying."

She's now on the road to recovery in her Ontario, Canada hometown.

When news of Avril's illness first surfaced last year - after a tweet she sent a fan was leaked online - there was speculation she was in rehab. She later branded the rumours "hilarious" and said they definitely weren't true.
