The singer and actress, 24, dressed all in black when she left her London home for BBC studios on Saturday (28 March).
But, little did she know at the time, she was about to say goodbye to her two acts during the semi-finals of the talent contest.
Heading out in a tailored black jacket worn over tights, Rita seemed serious and not her usual perky self.
Even her quirky French-style beret and round Ray-Ban sunglasses didn't put Rita in the mood to smile as she prepared to go into battle on the live show.
And what a show it was!
Rita was left devastated after losing her two acts on her first series as a judge.
Karis Thomas and Joe Woolford failed to win places in the final.
Instead Sasha Simone, Emmanuel Nwamadi, Stevie McCrorie and Lucy O'Bryne will all battle it out in next week's grand finale.
Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson was the only coach to get both of his acts - Emmanuel and Stevie - into the final, while Will.i.am and Sir Tom Jones both have a contestant in the running to be crowned the winner of series four.
After the news sunk in, Rita took to social media to thank fans for their support and to insist Karis and Joe have a long future ahead of them
She said: "My teams should of gone through they have done such a great job with or without the show! Remember joe and Karis your superstars regardless!
"You guys are the best and what a great experience we've all had together and thank you to the public for all of your support!!!!"
She later added: "Everything happens for a reason and I couldn't of asked for a better team. The whole of team Rita were amazing from the blinds to now. I wouldn't have it any other way.
"Be proud the performances were amazing and now it's only the beginning. Congratulations Karis and Joe and all the contestants. My experience on the voice and building team Rita was a dream. From the bottom of my heart well done! #TeamRita Always!!!!"
