Lucy landed the stint as Sarah-Louise's teenage daughter Bethany in January after Corrie sacked original actress Katie Redford for lying about her age.
Katie was originally cast as Bethany, but eagle-eyed soap fans spotted online profiles describing the actress as 25, and not 19, as it was previously believed. Corrie investigated the claims and soon after announced they would recast the role.
Now in her first TV interview, Lucy explained on ITV's This Morning today: "When I thought I hadn't got it, I was gutted. I thought that was it.
"But when they rang me to say that I had got it, I couldn't believe it. I still can't."
Lucy said the whole process, from auditioning to going on the show, has been a whirlwind.
"Everything moves so quickly," she added. "It was like I hadn't got it, and then I had got it, and then I was going for the tour and meeting Helen Worth and everybody, and now I'm on it.
"Tisha Merry has really taken me under her wing. She made sure I was going to the canteeen with everybody and she's given me loads of advice."
Last week, viewers saw Bethany's return to Weatherfield and she wasted no time in ruffling a few feathers.
But just how did Lucy celebrate after her first scene aired?
"We had a Corrie party at my sister's house with all of my family and friends," Lucy revealed. "My mum made a big Corrie curry, it was really good."
On Monday, viewers will see Bethany's mum, Sarah, fly back to Weatherfield International Airport to sort out her wayward daughter!
Speaking of their dramatic storyline, returning star Tina O'Brien, revealed: "Certain things happen. Sarah and Bethany don't go back to Milan because of Bethany's meddling. They stay in David's house, which he isn't happy about, and then Sarah gets involved with Calum."
