James Corden has said he is the "luckiest man alive" following his US debut as the new host of The Late Late Show.

Gavin & Stacey star James blew a huge sigh of relief after getting through the first showing of America's hugely popular programme on Sunday, which was well-received on social media.

Now speaking to The Mirror after his debut, James said: "I am actually the luckiest man alive, I don't know how this happened, I was so nervous before but it was good, it was fun, right?

"We have all worked so hard to try to get the show right, we have put so much into and tried everything it so hopefully it will be a success going forward."

On his first show, James was joined by Hollywood star Tom Hanks and actress Mila Kunis, and he seems like he's determined to bring relevant guests to America's audience each week.

James also said that his new lifestyle in the States works out well for his family. James is married to charity worker Julia and they are parents to four-year-old son Max and five-month-old daughter Carey.

James added: "I know this is going to be a long slog but it was a no-brainer for me to come and do it, it is the best thing for my family too, to live here. We've got a great house here."
