One Direction should kick Zayn Malik out of the band, according to US talkshow host Wendy Williams.

Management for the group announced last week that Zayn, 22, had been signed off with stress and would be temporarily leaving the world tour to return to the UK to recuperate.

It came after he was forced to publicly declare his love for Little Mix's Perrie Edwards following the publication of pictures showing him holding hands with another girl.

Outspoken chatshow host Wendy discussed Zayn on her programme this week - and her advice to the rest of the band was quite blunt.

"He has done this before. It's not his first time. Here's what I think One Direction fans and anyone else who cares... I feel as though if you can do five-part harmony, it's just as easy to do four-part harmony.

"I say kick this guy out of the group because now, that's more money for the rest of us. We don't have to split our money five ways. I am not mad at this guy. I admire him for standing in his own truth which is being a celebrity, particularly as a young person, is a lot and all he wants to do is go back and live a normal life.

"If this is what this guy wants to do, kick him out of the band."

Wendy added: "We don't need to audition anybody new. Four members of the group are fine."

Hmm... we're not sure what 1D fans would make of that.

In a statement announcing Zayn's exit from the tour, management said: "Zayn has been signed off with stress and is flying back to the UK to recuperate. The band wish him well and will continue with their performances in Manila and Jakarta."

X Factor mentor Sinitta recently said she thought Zayn was burned out and needed relaxation.

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat, singer Sinitta – who is close friends with 1D's mentor Simon Cowell - said: "When we don't see them here, it's not that they're resting, it's that they're in another country. They're literally promoting their records non-stop around the world, so they don't get a lot of downtime."

Sinitta also said it wasn't management pushing the boys, they themselves wanted to be everywhere and make sure every fan was happy.

Zayn hasn't tweeted since the announcement was made.

His last tweet, on 18 March, was a declaration of love for girlfriend Perrie Edwards from Little Mix, after pictures surfaced of him holding hands with another woman.

He said: "I'm 22 years old... I love a girl named Perrie Edwards. And there's a lot of jealous f**ks in this world I'm sorry for what it looks like x."
