Arsenal player Theo and his physiotherapist wife Melanie welcomed their first child, Finley, in April 2014. It was then discovered the tot had a heart condition.
Speaking to ITV's Lorraine today, Melanie explained: "When he was born he was so tiny, he was born two weeks early which is not too bad but when they did a routine check they found that he had a murmur on his heart.
"That can be normal at first but it should sort itself out after 24 hours but it didn't and so then they knew there was something going on in the heart. He was gone for two hours overall [for the operation]. It was the longest two hours, it just felt so long."
The operation took place when Finley was eight weeks old. He's now completely recovered and healthy.
Melanie (nee Slade) told Lorraine Kelly she would like more kids in the future: "I love being a mum and Theo is an amazing dad so yeah, and Finley would love to have a brother or sister I think, so yeah definitely."
Childhood sweethearts Theo and Melanie became engaged on New Year's Eve in 2011, after Theo popped the question at their Hertfordshire home. They started dating after meeting at a local shopping centre when they were just 15 and married at an Italian castle in June 2013.
With a footballer as a dad, it's no surprise that little Finley has already been to see a few games.
Mel said: "He's been to a few, he gets a bit overwhelmed when there is a goal he's a bit like, 'aaah' it's noisy and everyone jumps up and it's all at once but he's getting used to that now."
