The plot is thought to be inspired by the hit 2003 movie Calendar Girls, which starred Julie Walters and Helen Mirren.

BBC News reports that the 44-year-old singer's new project is being backed by tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire.

News of Gary's musical was revealed by the tourism board as part of a string of promotional events across the region.

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "To have someone of Gary Barlow's calibre working on a Yorkshire musical is amazing and I am sure, like the Calendar Girls film and the stage play, this musical will be a huge success."
