Charlie announced his decision to quit this morning (12 March) after hitting back at his sister Chloe Sims and his girlfriend Ferne McCann following last night's episode of the ITVBe reality show.
Charlie's cousin Frankie Essex made her return to the show last night, where she comforted Chloe, who has been having a tough time lately because of her estrangement from Charlie.
Things have been very strained between Chloe and Charlie recently, partly because of past tension between Chloe and Charlie's girlfriend Ferne, and also because Chloe made a comment about how their cousin Joey Essex is like a brother to her.
After the show, Ferne slammed the suggestion she doesn't want Charlie to make up with Chloe, after Frankie said Ferne had "got into Charlie's head".
However, taking to Twitter today, Charlie hinted at a potential split from girlfriend Ferne, as well as confirming his departure from the show.
He said: "So sad to not lose one but two people you love dearly to a TV show. Everyone can point the finger at me.. But I have morals. And dignity and some sort of self respect. I wish @Chloe_Sims and @fernemccann the best with their lives. But always live knowing you chose the show.
"And finally to the @OnlyWayIsEssex... I won't be taking part anymore. It's time to grow up and move on. Wish everyone the best on the show!"
Charlie added: "Stay true to who you are. Today I became me the real Charlie Sims.. And so another chapter begins."
Charlie made his return to this current series of TOWIE last month after previously taking a break to focus on his deli.
