Britain's Got Talent judge David made the confession during a recent interview, saying he made a beeline for the singer shortly after she secured a place in Girls Aloud.
Appearing alongside Cheryl on The Graham Norton show, David admitted he asked the band's then-manager, Louis Walsh, to put him in touch.
But sadly, Chezza - along with ALL her bandmates - just wasn't interested...
In the pre-recorded interview, which was filmed prior to news of David's alleged marriage troubles with Lara Stone, he said: 'When Girls Aloud came along I met Louis Walsh and asked him if any of the girls were single and he said he would ask.
"I thought he would do that discreetly but he called a meeting of all of them and asked, 'Do any of you want to go out with David Walliams?' It was a, 'No'....and that was the end of that."
Cheryl, who is happily married to French businessman Jean-Bernard, was sat alongside David as he made his comparison. We bet that wasn't awkward...much!
David and Cheryl will appear on the Comic Relief special episode of The Graham Norton Show later this month.
Earlier this week, before heading to the studio to film the show, Cheryl visited her stylist and had her hair cut into a dramatic 70s 'do.
The X Factor judge's hairdresser, Paul Percival, has since admitted that it was a "spontaneous" decision",
Speaking on This Morning, Paul added: "We talked about just doing a trim, and then we were like 'lets just do it'."
Considering she was in front of the cameras for a prime time show just hours later, that "spontaneous" decision took serious guts!
