American Idol star Kelly, who gave birth to daughter River Rose last year, has reflected on life before and after motherhood in a new interview.
"I love what I do, but I feel like I relied on my career a lot for my self-worth," she told People. "And now I'm more than that. I'm a mother and a wife and have this whole other thing going on."
She continued: "I have a certain level of peace I didn't know was going to come with it."
Kelly and her music manager husband Brandon Blackstock welcomed River on 12 June 2014. Kelly is also step-mother to Brandon's children Savannah, 13, and eight-year-old Seth from a previous relationship.
'Since U Been Gone' hitmaker Kelly added: "I've accomplished a lot, but I guess the biggest success I want is that whenever I die people will say, 'She was so successful as a mother, and as a wife.' That's kind of my big goal."
Kelly was in the UK last week to promote her new album Piece by Piece, which is the follow-up to 2013's Christmas album, Wrapped In Red.
Piece by Piece is due for release on 3 March. Earlier today, Kelly announced her new single, 'Run Run Run', will feature R&B star and recent Oscar winner John Legend.
