The Only Way Is Essex's Ricky Rayment has defended his relationship with Geordie Shore's Marnie Simpson, saying he is "proud" of her.

Ricky returned to TOWIE last night and was seen chatting to Mario Falcone and Charlie Sims about his new love interest - but his ex-girlfriend Jessica Wright also had something to say about his romance too.

Speaking to the girls in Tenerife, Jessica was seen telling them Ricky has been plastering his relationship all over Twitter...something she will not be doing when she finds love again.

Following the episode, Ricky appeared on spin-off show TOWIE: All Back To Essex and, afterwards, he tweeted [we're guessing in a Geordie accent?!]: "In the cab on the way home to bed.. canny wait for snuggles leeeeeeeeeekkk!"

However, after posting his tweet, one of Ricky's followers replied: "@RickyRayment aka lets show how happy i am to the world like a 5 year old! True happiness is between 2... Not Twitter! #attention #seeking."

Clearly unimpressed, Ricky shot back: "I'm just extremely proud of her and I know how lucky I am."

TOWIE star Ricky began dating Marnie following a smooch at a National Television Awards after party in London last month. Although he didn't namecheck her directly on last night's episode, Ricky has made it clear he is smitten.

Earlier this month, Ricky and Marnie both declared that they had "fallen for each other badly" and they are now pretty much inseparable.

This isn't the first time he has had to defend their relationship though. Last week, Ricky hit back at his 'haters', insisting that he doesn't want a "classy" girlfriend.

He added: "I'm defo not 'classy'...I want @Marniegshore ..we have fun.. we have laughs.. we have the best time. I want her x."
