The long-time friend of Kim told Details magazine he'd been "killed" by other designers for his relationship with her but now they're all clamoring to dress the reality star.
He explained: "I dress people even when they don't have an Oscar nomination or they don't have an album out. If they're my friends, I respect them to the end… Look at Kanye and Kim – at the beginning, I was the only one."
Riccardo went on to say he and Kanye together made Kim into someone who was accepted by the fashion industry, but that wasn't always the case.
"Every designer is dying to dress her now. I didn't care what people thought about Kim. In the beginning, I met her because of my respect for Kanye, and then I liked her a lot and we became friends," he said.
"I got killed because of this. But I didn't care. That is a friend, you see. And this is why, when they got married, they asked me to dress them. They say, 'You've always been with us. You've been a real friend.' If I like somebody, I like somebody. If I don't like somebody, I don't like somebody.
Reality star Kim's beautiful gown for her May 2014 nuptials to Kanye was a Givenchy couture number by Riccardo. Kanye wore a custom-made Givenchy tuxedo, while their daughter North, one, was dressed in a tiny couture Givenchy dress.
Riccardo also dressed a then-pregnant Kim in the famous floral number she wore to the Met Ball in New York in 2013.
In an interview with WWD about the frock, he said: "I love Kim. Doing maternity was fantastic. I wanted to have a Kim Kardashian moment, because Kim always supports me. She is the future wife of a really good friend of mine. I wanted to have a moment of family. Kim, Kanye and the baby. It will be a family that I will be close to."
