Fifty Shades of Grey star Marcia Gay Harden has revealed she was desperate to see the Red Room of Pain during filming.

The actress plays Christian Grey's mother in the highly anticipated erotic movie and, although she had no scenes in the Red Room, that didn't stop her having a nosy around!

She told People: "I did beg [the director] to show me the room and she did – not when it was occupied, so to speak!"

Readers of E.L. James' erotic novel will know the Red Room of Pain (christened by love interest Ana Steele) is Christian's playroom where he keeps his BDSM equipment.

In trailers for the movie, he's shown escorting Ana to the door, where she questions whether his playroom is for Xboxes. Um, no!

Much has been made of the sex scene sin the movie (rumoured to run at around 20 minutes) and the fact it's been given an 18 rating for explicit content.

Marcia, however, said she agreed with star Jamie Dornan's view that ultimately Fifty Shades is a love story.

"[It is] the possibility that love can conquer all, even if it's a spicier kind of love than one might be expecting."

Today, the first full scene from Fifty Shades was released, showing the moment Christian surprises Ana by dropping by her hardware store to buy cable ties.

The movie is released in cinemas on Valentine's Day.

It will mark the major feature film debut of Rita Ora, who plays Christian's sister Mia. Other stars include Jennifer Ehle, famous for playing Elizabeth Bennet in the BBC Pride & Prejudice adaptation.
