Heather's left limb reportedly smashed just 24 hours before the new series was set to air and she had to frantically fly in a spare to Austria from Germany.
A source told The Sun: "She'd have been devastated if she hadn't been able to join in."
Heather, who used to be married to Beatles star Paul McCartney, lost her leg in a motorbiking accident in 1993, however she hasn't let it hold her back in life.
In 2007, Heather took part in America's Dancing With The Stars, she hit the rink for ITV1's Dancing On Ice in 2010 and she has already won medals on the ski slopes.
However, although she has experience skiing, Heather's disability does put her at a disadvantage in the skeleton, the bobsled and the actual jump.
Speaking to Mail Online last week, Heather said: "I wanted to do something that would challenge me, something I could push myself with and something I'd get to learn from."
In last night's launch show, the men took on the skeleton. Cricketer Phil Tufnell and Gogglebox's Dom Parker were the first two celebrities to be sent home.
