Emma Watson's childhood dreams have come true as she's going to play Belle in a live-action version of Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

The Harry Potter actress shared the exciting news with fans via Facebook last night, saying she was thrilled to be part of the movie spectacular.

Emma said: "It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I'll get to dance to 'Be Our Guest' and sing 'Something There'. My six-year-old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can't wait for you to see it."

The movie will be directed by Bill Condon, who helmed The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Parts 1 and 2.

Further cast have not been released.

Disney's animated Beauty and the Beast was released back in 1991. It's based on the French fairy tale by Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont.

The movie generated more than $400 million worldwide and was nominated for five Oscars including three separate recognitions for 'Best Original Song'.

It's not the only live-action Disney movie in the offering: a live-action version of Cinderella starring Lily James and Richard Madden will be released later this year.
