Nottingham actress Katie hit the headlines two weeks ago after being cast as Sarah-Louise Platt's 14-year-old daughter Bethany.
However, just days later, Corrie bosses announced they would be "looking into" claims about Katie's age, after eagle-eyed soap fans spotted online profiles describing the actress as 25, and not 19, as it was previously believed.
Just one day later, Corrie revealed plans to recast the role of Bethany.
Despite Katie saying at the time that it was a "dream come true", her agent insists Katie never felt right about getting the job.
Jo McLintock told The Mirror: "She realises a soap is not for her. She said it felt wrong, even when she got it."
Admitting the plan "backfired horrifically", her agent added: "It wasn't Katie's decision to do that, it was us. When she went to Corrie, she went in based on her CV. Her playing age is 16-20.
"We said 'If they ask you your age, just let them believe you are 19'. It is common knowledge – people do that all the time."
Katie is now said to be "distraught" and "upset" following a series of "horrific texts, emails and phone calls" and online abuse, which led to her suspending her Twitter and Facebook accounts.
Soon to be 26, Katie would have been 11 years older than her on-screen character, and just six years younger than returning soap star Tina O'Brien, who plays Bethany's mum Sarah-Louise.
Sarah-Louise and Bethany will return to Weatherfield in the spring after living in Milan for seven years.
Corrie are yet to announce details of who will be taking over the role.
