The mother and daughter have had their rocky moments in the past but they put on a united front this weekend to support a screening of Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah.
It's the first authorised documentary of the late Nirvana frontman and has been approved fully by Frances, who served as executive producer.
The movie features interviews with people close to Kurt including Courtney, his family and band members, and includes previously unseen home videos and diary extracts.
After watching the movie, Courtney tweeted at her daughter: "So sad. So, so sad yet so uplifting, beautiful and gorgeous. Your daddy would be so proud of you baby. Thank you."
Frances was less than two years old when her father was found dead of a gunshot wound on 8 April 1994.
