Speaking to Reveal on the NTAs red carpet last night, the 30-year-old said: "Simon is absolutely lovely. He's really chilled."
Insisting the music mogul is letting him have free reign when it comes to being an artist, Ben added: "He is a big fan of me doing what I want to do and working on our ideas."
Speaking about the direction he wants to take with his music, the singer said: "For me it's a learning curve, I used to be into really heavy rock and that doesn't resonate with everyone. I want to find the middle ground."
Last month, Ben was crowned as the latest X Factor winner, beating bookies favourite Fleur East to the title.
Following his win, the star's debut single - a cover of One Republic's 'Something I Need' - headed straight to the top of charts, bagging Ben his first number one.
He has since officially signed his winner's record deal with Syco and is already busy in the studio working on his debut album.
Talk about an exciting year ahead!
Meanwhile, X Factor runner up Fleur has managed to land herself her own record deal after the show.
Simon Cowell's label took to Twitter to announce Fleur was the latest star to join their books, making her the first X Factor contestant - apart from champ Ben - to get signed.
While Simon has said he is looking forward to working with the 26-year-old, Fleur has admitted her good news "still hasn't sunk in".
