After speculation of a separation began circulating last week, football star Cristiano has now released a statement confirming the breakup.
He told AP: 'After dating for five years, my relationship with Irina Shayk has come to an end. We believed it would be best for both of us to take this step now."
No further details were revealed.
Rumours of a split emerged last week when Irina did not accompany Cristiano to Zurich where he picked up his Ballon d'Or footballer of the year award.
Instead, the Real Madrid and Portugal star was joined on stage by his mother Dolores and his mini-me son Cristiano Jr.
It was alleged that Cristiano and Irina's split came after the model declined to attend a party Cristiano had arranged for his mother, but Irina's rep has said this is completely false.
The rep told Daily Mail: "Irina has been close with his family throughout the course of their relationship. Any negative rumours with regards to Irina and the Ronaldo family are completely false, and have not been a factor in the cause of the split.
