The couple, who are already parents to son Milan, have teamed up with UNICEF to throw a 'World Baby Shower', which will benefit expectant mothers in the poorest countries.
Shakira and Barcelona FC player Gerard have set up a special website which enables fans to donate 'Inspired Gifts', including midwifery kits to help with the safe delivery of up to 50 babies.
Other presents include baby blankets, scales and polio vaccines, along with footballs and storybooks, and they will be shipped out to those who need them most.
The couple are now urging other expectant mums and dads to follow suit and hold their own World Baby Shower.
Shakira says: "Now that we are soon welcoming our second child we want to help other children around the world and also contribute to a long-lasting solution for getting children living in extreme poverty the supplies they need to survive.
"We also want other parents to feel compelled to do the same. With the explosion of social media, celebrities aren't the only ones who have platforms that can reach mass audiences, and we want this movement to keep going long after our baby shower has ended, so we want to invite them to host their own baby showers with Unicef as well."
She adds: "Every woman who's expecting has the power to use the blessing of her child's imminent birth to save the lives of other, less fortunate children around the world.
"If every expectant mother having a baby shower decided to include among her gift registry some of these inspired gifts that Unicef offers, we could collectively save the lives of hundreds of thousands of children all over the globe."
To celebrate the launch of the campaign, Shakira and Gerard have posed for a gorgeous new picture together. In the photo, Gerard has his hands placed gently on Shakira's blooming bump.
In August, Shakira and Gerard confirmed their pregnancy.
