Soap bosses will now be looking for a new Bethany after Katie Redford, who had been hired to play her, was discovered to be almost seven years older than she claimed she was.
Katie was believed to have been 19 when she auditioned to land a part on the cobbles as 14-year-old Bethany, but after the news was officially confirmed by ITV last week, eagle-eyed fans questioned Katie's age having seen online profiles stating she was indeed 25.
This morning, soap bosses said they were "looking into" the claims, but it has now been revealed that they will recast the role.
A spokesperson confirmed this afternoon: "Coronation Street have taken the decision to recast the part of Bethany Platt."
Soon to be 26, Katie would have been 11 years older than her on-screen character, and just six years younger than returning star Tina O'Brien, who plays Bethany's mum Sarah-Louise Platt.
Sarah-Louise and Bethany will return to Weatherfield in the spring after living in Milan for seven years.
