Last week, soap bosses revealed Katie would be playing the role of Sarah-Louise Platt's 14-year-old daughter Bethany.
Corrie announced the casting as: "Nottingham born Katie, 19, will debut as tearaway teenager Bethany this spring when she arrives unannounced in Weatherfield from her home in Milan."
However, eagle-eyed fans have since spotted online profiles of Katie, which reveal she is in fact 25, and according to The Sun, public records show Katie was born on 2 March 1989.
A Corrie spokesperson said: "We will be looking into it."
If true, Katie will be 11 years older than her on-screen character, and just six years younger than returning star Tina O'Brien, who plays her mum Sarah-Louise.
Bethany is set to arrive on the Corrie cobbles before Sarah and it's soon apparent that she's got quite an eye for the boys, but also a fiery relationship with her mum.
Katie said at the time: "Until I'm actually on set, I genuinely don't think it will sink in that I'm joining the cast of Coronation Street. I know it sounds cliched but it really feels like a dream come true."
