Series 11 only just wrapped up in December, so the new series won't be airing until later this year, but Dermot has already cast doubt over his future on the popular ITV talent show.
"I haven't made up my mind yet," Dermot told Radio Times magazine. "I love doing [X Factor] and it's a huge part of my life. But it's eight years now."
Dermot, 41, joined X Factor in 2007 after replacing host Kate Thornton.
Dermot continued: "If a new challenge came up that meant I couldn't do both, then… But while I'm still enjoying it, I want to carry on doing it."
Will TV favourite Dermot really leave the show after eight years? Who would else would grill the judges over their critique, or push them to make a decision at deadlock, and what would happen to the much-loved Dermot Dance?!
While Dermot is unsure over his future on the show, he revealed that talks with Simon Cowell and X Factor producers usually take place in mid-February.
Dermot, who has a regular Radio 2 show, will be on our screens next week (Wednesday 21 January) to host the National Television Awards live from London's O2 Arena.
