Kym Marsh has hit back at "bullies" who targeted her daughter after she auditioned on The Voice UK.

The Coronation Street actress, 38, supported Emilie Cunliffe when she performed on the talent show on Saturday night (10 January) and was filmed in tears when none of the coaches turned their chairs around - meaning Emilie didn't get through.

But after her emotional appearance during the blind auctions, 16-year-old Emilie was the subject of cruel remarks on Twitter.

Despite getting positive remarks from, Sir Tom Jones, Ricky Wilson and new coach Rita Ora, some Twitter users were still keen to knock the fledging singer.

And protective mum Kym soon stepped in.

She lashed out, saying: "Got to say the bullies on here make me sick!! Say what you like about me I really do not care but a 16yr old??? Really?? Sick!!!"

Friends and family were quick to show their support, including co-star Catherine Tyldesley who replied: "@msm4rsh pure jealousy. Pity them - for they live in a world of deep negativity and will never forfil their dreams. #karmawillprevail x."

After Emilie sang a rendition of the song 'Clarity' by EDM producer Zedd, she was gutted when no one turned around.

But mum Kym - who herself became famous on reality show Popstars - tweeted: "So proud of my baby @EmilieCunliffe on the voice tonight!! She is so young and has some nerve to get out there like that! Love you baby!!"

The former Hear'Say singer later added: "I am sooo proud of my daughter at 16 she is just a baby and she was so nervous but this is not the end for her this is just the beginning."

The next day, newly-engaged Kym suggested Emilie had perhaps had some good news, as she wrote: "Good things happening for my girl @EmilieCunliffe onwards and upwards kid!"

After realising Emilie was only 16, Sir Tom had said: "I made a mistake here. There's nothing to criticise. On reflection I should have hit my button."

Rita, meanwhile, said she needed to find something to make her stand out from other female singers.

After her performance, Emilie ignored the haters and tweeted: "Thanks everyone for all my amazing feedback on my @BBCTheVoiceUK audition! I will never give up, I'm determined to make my dream come true."

And the promising starlet obviously made an impression on Kaiser Chief frontman Ricky, as he tweeted: "Great job by @EmilieCunliffe You can follow her to see how she's doing, where and where she's singing next and stuff. It just the beginning!"

And host Marvin Humes gushed: "Love this version of this song and for a 16 year old what a voice!!!! @BBCTheVoiceUK #TheVoiceUK @EmilieCunliffe."

Somehow we don't think this will be the last we hear of teenager Emilie...
