One Direction's Louis Tomlinson doesn't seem too impressed about X Factor being namechecked during publicity for The Voice UK.

The 'Night Changes' singer took to Twitter this morning to voice his opinion after reading stories about the new series of The Voice UK, which begins this weekend.

Louis tweeted: "Is bad mouthing The X Factor the only way The Voice knows how to promo their show? #everyyear."

He added: "It's like Accrington Stanley trying to compete with Real Madrid..."

It's understandable that Louis would be protective of X Factor as that's where One Direction was formed and first found success.

He didn't reference what X Factor/The Voice UK story he was referring to, but there have been a couple in the news this morning.

One is Rita Ora claiming she turned down a role on the X Factor judging panel to become a coach on The Voice UK as the show has more "freedom" for the coaches and is respected in the industry.

Another story is The Voice UK coach will.i.am telling the Radio Times he simply thinks their show is better than X Factor, while Rita Ora says: "We're definitely more entertaining as individuals! And the singers are better.

"And to answer bluntly, it's about music. It's a good show, a great formula, and there's no illusions."

Viewers can decide that for themselves this weekend when the fourth series of The Voice UK premieres on BBC One on Saturday night. It will mark Rita's first year as a coach alongside the returning will.i.am, Ricky Wilson and Sir Tom Jones.

Meanwhile, the eleventh series of X Factor wrapped in December, with Ben Haenow being crowned winner. He went on to achieve Christmas number one with his debut single 'Something I Need'.
