James Arthur has said he's looking forward to the New Year after branding 2014 a year he doesn't particularly want to remember.

The former X Factor winner took a moment on Twitter to reflect on the past few months ahead of ringing in the New Year.

After a rocky time lately, James told fans: "Needless to say, 2014 is not a year I'm going to particularly miss aside from the interactions with my cool ass fans!

James won the ninth series of X Factor and had enormous success with first single 'Impossible' and his self-titled debut album.

However, the past year hasn't been the easiest for the star who quit Twitter after finding it "too toxic" and found himself injured during a Polish bar brawl.

He also confirmed his departure from Simon Cowell's record label Syco, and later said he was leaving his management team to focus on a fresh start.

Reflecting on the past year, he told fans: "This Christmas has really made me fully appreciate the value of family and friends. I hope to strengthen those bonds in 2015. #2014TaughtMe

"2014 has also taught me that even when the chips are down I still have an unbelievable fan base worldwide! The support has been exceptional."

As well as working on new music and (hopefully) releasing a new album, the singer-songwriter has vowed to start a new healthy eating plan tomorrow.

So he made the most of his last day of comfort food, enjoying a McDonald's breakfast and a Gregg's roll.

"Crash diet starts tomorrow and for all of 2015 so I started my day at the Golden Arches with 2 mcmuffins n a sausage n bean melt ala greggs
