X Factor winner Ben Haenow has claimed the official Christmas Number One spot on the UK music chart.

Ben, who has topped the charts with his debut single 'Something I Need', held off competition from 'Uptown Funk' by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, and surprise last minute contender, 'Got No Fans' by The Wealdstone Raider.

The former van driver's combined chart sales figure is currently in excess of 214,000 copies, with proceeds going to Together For Short Lives children's charity.

'Something I Need', which is a One Republic cover, is currently the fastest selling single of the year, behind 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' by Band Aid 30.

"To have even been in the running for Christmas Number One against some of the names that were in the race, and then to have actually won is incredible," Ben told OfficialCharts.com.

"It's an incredible end to my year. I'm gonna go and have a few good drinks with my mates... definitely more than a few good drinks to really celebrate! I'm absolutely shocked. I can't believe it."

Ben was congratulated on his news by his X Factor mentor and his new record label boss Simon Cowell, who told him "many congrats" via Twitter.

American band One Republic, who have already given Ben their seal of approval over his cover, also tweeted: "So ‪@Bhaenow congrats on the Christmas #1 man!! UK love!!!!!! Happy Holidays."

Just last week, 29-year-old Ben stormed to victory as the winner of The X Factor, beating off competition from Fleur East and Andrea Faustini.

Ben will now be headlining X Factor's live tour next year, which will hit arenas nationwide in February and March.

Speaking about his whirlwind year, Ben added in a statement: "This is an absolute dream come true. Getting the Christmas No. 1 is just the icing on the cake of what has honestly been the best year of my life. Thank you all so much to everyone for all the support during The X Factor and now for giving me No. 1 single. This is just the beginning and I can't wait. Bring on 2015!"

On Saturday, Ben performed his debut single live at G-A-Y, and owner Jeremy Joseph presented Ben with an early Christmas No. 1 cake, only for a cake fight to follow soon after!
