X Factor judge Mel B has spoken about her love for husband Stephen Belafonte, saying: "I married my best friend."

The former Spice Girl gave an interview published in Fabulous magazine at the weekend - before her recent illness - in which she revealed how lucky she feels to be married to Hollywood producer Stephen.

The interview took place before Stephen denied "disgusting" and "untrue" speculation he'd hit Mel.

Mel says Stephen is her best friend.

Mel gushes in the chat: "I have a healthy relationship with my husband. I married my best friend, who I think is sexy and and hot and gorgeous and beautiful inside and out. I get butterflies whenever I see him still. Sometimes it's because I think I'm in trouble, like, 'Oh God, what did I say?' But when he walks in the room I think, 'Oh my God, that is my husband.'"

Mel, 39, says that like other couples, their relationship has its ups and downs, but it's still rock solid.

"I have a marriage that goes up and down but divorce will never be an option," she says.

"He's my rock."

Mel also speaks in the interview about the intense chemistry she shares with Stephen, joking she has to wear pyjamas to bed as a "barrier" or he can't keep his hands off her!

In fact, she even says the night before the interview she went to bed pyjama-free and, well, you know what happened! TMI, Mel?

Mel's interview was published just as she was forced to pull out of Saturday night's X Factor because of an undisclosed illness. According to reports, she was taken to hospital on Thursday and spent several nights being treated.

She was discharged on Sunday and deemed well enough to attend that night's grand finale.

So far, the singer has not revealed the nature of her illness, simply saying on Sunday night's X Factor that she was "better-ish" and thanking the doctors and nurses who had treated her.

Stephen, meanwhile, took to Twitter this morning to vehemently deny Twitter suggestions that he'd hit Mel, causing her absence from the show.

He angrily tweeted: "I don't usually respond to Twitter messages but I will respond to comments of hitting my wife which I think are quite disgusting and untrue! Mel was very ill. A bunch of doctors helped her get better. If fans can't just relax before being negative they are not real fans of Mel."

Mel and Stephen, 39, married in 2007. They are parents to daughter Madison, three. Mel is also mum to daughters Phoenix, 15, and Angel, seven, from previous relationships.
