In recent weeks, the fellow judges have been plagued by reports they have fallen out. But, proving she and the Spice Girl are nothing but pals, Cheryl credited Mel for making her X Factor series during last night's grand final.
When asked by host Dermot O'Leary to give her X Factor highlight, Cheryl took the opportunity to pay homage to the show's newest judge.
Grabbing Mel's hand, she replied: "There's been a lot of highlights, but the biggest highlight for me has been getting to know this one."
Met with plenty of 'awws' from the crowd, Mel was clearly touched by Cheryl's comment, kissing her hand in return.
Their show of friendship yesterday evening, proves the pair have formed a close bond while appearing on the judging panel together, despite rumours of a rift between them.
Only a few weeks ago, reports emerged that the judges had supposedly fallen out after Mel decided to save Louis Walsh's boyband Stereo Kicks over Cheryl's then remaining act Lauren Platt.
In what appeared to be a dig at her fellow judge, Cheryl then said live on air: "I find it amazing that the critiques have been a certain way over the last few weeks, then it comes to this part and it changes, that amazes me."
But, insisting it "wasn't personal" towards Mel, the 'Crazy Stupid Love' singer said she had got caught up in the moment.
"There was no calling out as such," Cheryl explained. "It was something I would have said to her after the show.
"You just get into that moment, you're passionate about your acts. Our approach is very different on the show, but, woman to woman, [Mel and I] are very straight-talking."
On Saturday night, Mel was absent from the judging panel due to illness - meaning she missed the first show of this year's final.
Concerned about her friend, Cheryl took to Twitter ahead of the show to tell fans she was "gutted" Mel wouldn't be there.
She tweeted: "Absolutely gutted Mel is not able to make it tonight after all the love and hard work she has put into getting Andrea here."

Instead Mel was replaced by former X Factor judge Tulisa - who stepped in to support Andrea - Mel's remaining boy - as he finished in third place that evening.
But, on her return to the show last night, proud mentor Mel told Dermot she "loved" Andrea and he had done "such a good job" making the final.
In a close showdown, Ben Haenow was eventually crowned this year's X Factor winner - beating bookie's favourite Fleur East.
Following the show, it was revealed Ben won 57% of the vote to take the title and since then, his debut single 'Something I Need' has stormed straight to the number one spot on the iTunes chart.
