While judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Louis Walsh joined Sarah-Jane Crawford to talk about the evening on ITV2, poorly Mel was a no-show.
Sarah-Jane started by saying: "I want to say I'm so glad Mel got to come back tonight. Sadly she can't be on Xtra Factor but Mel, very merry Christmas."
Simon added: "She did great."
And that was a shame she couldn't appear, as it turns out Mel was the closest of all judges to predicting who would be in the final.
It's X Factor tradition for all the judges to predict the winner before live shows begin. And then, following the announcement of the winner, it's revealed who guessed correctly.
Well, this time around, no one guessed correctly, but Mel was closest in choosing Italian singer Andrea Faustini.
Andrea, who Mel mentored, finished in third place.
Meanwhile, Cheryl picked either Lauren Platt or Stereo Kicks, Louis went for Kerianne Covell or Stereo Kicks, and Simon chose Jay James or Stereo Kicks.
The eventual winner was Ben Haenow with Fleur East finishing runner-up.
Both Ben and Fleur were mentored by Simon Cowell.
Mel's illness caused her to back out of X Factor's show on Saturday night, which saw Simon drafting in former judge Tulisa as an eleventh hour replacement.
There has been no confirmation as to what Mel is suffering from. On Sunday's show, she only referenced her illness when she thanked doctors and nurses for helping make sure she made Sunday's show.
