Gemma Collins has said she hopes she can be friends with TOWIE co-star Ferne McCann in the future, but for now it's best they don't speak.

Viewers of the Essex drama saw Gemma and Ferne coming head-to-head in the Christmas special this week, after Fearne was accused of speaking about people behind their backs.

Gemma spoke with the TOWIE official website.

Gemma has now told the official TOWIE website: "I like Ferne, I just wish she'd not go round backstabbing people, it's really not the right thing to do in life.

"It's Christmas, I don't want there to be any animosity… At the minute I do need solid friends in my life. Hopefully in time me and Ferne will sort things out but for now it's best left as it is."

In The Only Way Is Essexmas, we saw a rather awkward exchange between Gemma and Ferne, witnessed by Bobby Norris and Billie Faiers.

Billie said it's a shame because Gemma and Ferne used to be good friends, and Bobby interjected to say Gemma needs strong people in her life now.

Things have been frosty between them since the last series, and got worse on this week's episode when Gemma accused Ferne of talking about Danielle Armstrong behind Dani's back.

In the end, Ferne declared to Gemma: "I don't want you in my life anymore."

Gemma agreed.

"I don't think you have any morals," she told Ferne. "You're like a petulant child constantly causing trouble all the time. I'll see you and say hello but I need rock tight people in my life and not trouble making people like you. Let's hope Santa brings you a sack of morals this year because you need it."

TOWIE returns to ITVBe next year.
