Following Mel's decision to save Stereo Kicks instead of Cheryl's act Lauren Platt in the X Factor quarter-finals, speculation arose that the pair had fallen out dramatically after the show.
But, shrugging off the claims, Cheryl has insisted she and Mel are nothing but pals.
Rumours of a fall out stemmed from a comment Cheryl made towards Mel after she opted to send Lauren home.
Following Mel's decision, live on air, Cheryl said: "I find it amazing that the critiques have been a certain way over the last few weeks, then it comes to this part and it changes, that amazes me."
But, insisting her comment wasn't "personal" towards the Spice Girl, Cheryl claimed she was just fighting for her contestant.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the X Factor final this weekend, Cheryl explained: "Our approach is very different on the show, but, woman to woman, [Mel and I] are very straight-talking.
"There was no calling out as such, it was something I would have said to her after the show. You just get into that moment, you're passionate about your acts.
"It's not personal. In fact, it's the least personal it has ever been this year."
The 'Crazy Stupid Love' singer's comments come after X Factor host Dermot O'Leary too denied the girls were at loggerheads.
When asked if there was rift between the pair, he said: "God, no! When people are honest, it's the most important thing. The important rule is you leave [the arguments] after the show."
Meanwhile, Cheryl did admit she was loving being back on the X Factor judging panel.
Admitting it was her love for the show that prompted her return, the former Girls Aloud star said: "The process of [The X Factor], I actually love. I loved my previous experience and I love watching and nuturing talent. Plus Simon and I had some unfinished business...
"Watching somebody else achieve something in front of your eyes is such a buzz, almost as much as it doing it yourself."
With no acts left in the competition, following Lauren Platt's exit, Cheryl will be able to enjoy Saturday night's final while Mel and Simon Cowell battle it out for their act to take the title.
However, there are fears Mel may miss the final due to illness, leaving her act Andrea Faustini to face his fellow finalists Ben Haenow and Fleur East alone.
A spokesperson for ITV has said: "There is a chance Mel she won't make it, absolutely."
Fingers crossed she is on the mend!
The X Factor final begins this Saturday 13 December at 8.30pm on ITV.
