William and his pregnant wife Kate Middleton met the man while attending a showcase of performances by disadvantaged youths in Manhattan yesterday.
Steven Prescod, 22, told New York Post that William reached out to him after watching the performance, which documented Steven's upbringing in Brooklyn, including his father being jailed and his own battles on the street.
He said: "William said he wanted to help me put this together. He gave me his contact number and said to reach out to him."
Steven added that William was so impressed by his one-man show, he even said he would "pay millions" to watch Steven perform.
William, 32, and Kate, also 32, were guests of honour at the youth centre in West Village yesterday, where various young people put on powerful performances.
According to People, the duke told them he was "nearly in tears" during the afternoon, adding: "That was incredible. It was amazing and should be on the West End."
The royal couple visited The Door youth centre on their final day of engagements in the US during a whirlwind three-day visit.
Earlier, they had paid their respects at the 9/11 Memorial, and later that day attended a glamorous dinner to mark the 600th anniversary of St Andrews, the Scottish university where they first met in 2001.
The couple will return to the UK today.
