The former X Factor winner announced over the weekend he was taking some time away from the social media site to work on his second album.
James tweeted: "Making Album 2 - will be quiet here for a while.. #LOVE."
However, a further two tweets were reportedly also posted and swiftly deleted, with the singer apparently branding Twitter too "toxic" for him.
According to reports, the star was targeted by fans of fellow X Factor contestant Ella Henderson, who finished in sixth place in the year James won.
Ella was appearing on X Factor over the weekend as a guest performer, perhaps prompting fans to speak up about their disappointment that she never won.
James is said to have tweeted: "Is there really any need to give me abuse because I won the show over Ella? Back then, I was a worthy winner. You have short memories."
A second tweet purportedly read: "That's all I am saying. Thanks to my fans for your support but Twitter is too toxic for me so I won't be posting for a while. Album 2 coming."
James' exit from Twitter came just a few days after he appeared in high spirits while doing a Q&A with fans. Among the things we learned was he's backing Fleur East to win X Factor and he's got a soft spot for the Kardashians!
He also spoke of his second album, saying: "The new album will be next year. Hoping to sign a new deal soon."
And he teased a possible movie, tweeting on 27 November: "Man, London traffic gets me so stressed… Off to a meeting about a film."
So, he may not be on Twitter, but it seems there's plenty happening in the world of James Arthur right now and 2015 could be a big year…
