The reality star dramatically quit the ITV show after just 72 hours in the jungle, which sparked plenty of talk about whether she'd still receive her full free.

On today's This Morning, the Essex star put things straight, revealing that, contrary to reports, she had not been paid the full amount she would have pocketed if she'd stayed in the jungle for the full run."

"I didn't collect my full fee," she said. "I was given a percentage which is going to a charity for starving children."

Viewers of the show were quick to praise the star's actions, with comments on Twitter including, "massive credit to Gemma for donating her fee" and "I'm now seeing Gemma in a completely different light."

Gemma said she'd been inspired to use the money to help the hungry after battling with hunger herself in the jungle.

"I'll be honest with you, I was starving! I'm a plus size girl, I went from everything to 500 calories a day, and that did affect me and when I went in the 'Bush Telegraph. The room was spinning around, all my blood sugar levels had dropped, I am meant to take insulin three times a day, but with all what happened to me, I forgot to take my medication in the jungle as well…"

Gemma shocked viewers by sensationally walking out of the jungle after just three days. Initially, it was thought she couldn't handle the jungle conditions and hunger.

Gemma had a tough time in the jungle.

But she later revealed a personal incident had happened before flying to Australia which had affected her more deeply than she first realised.

"A personal and very serious incident that happened to me hours before I flew to Australia affected me in camp far more than I could have ever imagined and I just couldn't carry on in there," she told The Sun.

"I am so, so sorry that I have let people down but I had to make the decision to walk away."

Gemma's now back on more familiar territory in Essex, where she's been filming the Christmas episode of TOWIE, set to air on 10 December on ITVBe.

She'd initially bowed out of production due to her jungle commitments but after leaving Australia early, she made it in time to join her castmates for filming the episode.
