Russell Brand jokingly accused a group of American children of making a "hurtful mention" of ex-wife Katy Perry.

The comedian was filming a fun segment for US TV show Live with Kelly & Michael which involved a bunch of school kids teaching him about the American holiday and its traditions.

Things could have got awkward, however, when Russell quizzed the kids on who they'd invite to Thanksgiving dinner.

"Katy Perry!" shouted one enthusiastic child.

"Katy Perry?" replied Russell. "I don't know who that is…"

Oh, naughty!

Russell later summed up is experience by saying: "Thanks to these genuine Americans – and a hurtful mention of my wife-wife – I, Russell Brand, an Englishman, now have a much better understanding of Thanksgiving."

The same week, however, Russell reassured everyone he didn't have any hard feelings towards Katy by telling another interviewer he'd enjoyed being married. "I would like to get married again," he told Wendy Williams. "I was married before and I really liked it."

Russell and Katy married in India in October 2010, but divorce papers were filed one year later on New Year's Eve.
