Strictly Come Dancing star Judy Murray reacted to son Andy's engagement yesterday with one very simple tweet.

"Just your average day, really," she wrote.

Despite no doubt bursting at the seams with pride and excitement, the tennis coach remained calm – and coy! – on Twitter after news broke that Andy had proposed to girlfriend of eight years Kim Sears.

Andy popped up during Judy's rehearsals for Strictly Come Dancing earlier this month.

Andy's engagement was breaking news across the internet and even on media channels like BBC News, which had a strapline running across the bottom of its screen declaring the exciting development.

Perhaps Judy's simple tweet was poking a bit of fun at the sheer mass of interest and excitement in the engagement?!

Judy also retweeted a message from another follower – a penguin at Fife Aquarium! – which read: "There was me thinking if it all fell through with @MontyThePenguin then the was still @andy_murray to waddle down the aisle with me...."

Andy and Kim have been together eight years.

Andy and Kim have been together for eight years but have always kept their romance away from the spotlight. It's no surprise then that neither has offered any comment or details on the proposal.

Sources claim Andy popped the question last week and that the couple want to enjoy a long engagement before marrying.

Andy and Kim, whose dad is a tennis coach, met at the US Open in 2005.

Kim is an English Literature graduate-turned-artist.
