Andy Murray is engaged to girlfriend Kim Sears.

A representative for the tennis player confirmed this evening that he had proposed to artist Kim but declined to reveal any further details.

Andy, 27, has been with Kim, 28, for eight years and she is frequently seen cheering on his matches at tournaments around the world.

While notoriously private Andy and Kim have not spoken out, a source told the Daily Mirror that the proposal happened last week.

"Kim said 'yes' immediately. They are completely besotted with each other and have been there for each other through thick and thin. They are just going to enjoy themselves before they start planning their big day."

Andy hasn't said anything on Twitter yet... but earlier this year, the Wimbledon champ caused somewhat of a Twitter storm when he responded to one fan's question about a possible engagement.

He tweeted in reply: "We're getting married just after Wimbledon, should be a great day."

Fans were quick to send congratulatory messages forcing Andy to admit he'd just been poking fun at the constant speculation about a marriage.

This time, however, it's for real!

Congrats to Andy and Kim!

Kim's become known for her gorgeous fashion and immaculate hairdo.

No doubt Andy's mum Judy Murray, who recently starred on Strictly Come Dancing, is thrilled! And can possibly teach the couple a few wedding dance moves!

Andy and Kim - whose father is a tennis coach - have always kept their romance well away from the headlines but it's thought they first met at the US Open in 2005, and began dating the following year.

Last year, during an interview with Holly Willoughby, Andy refused to talk about speculation of an engagement, simply telling Holly: "I only met you about ten minutes ago so I wouldn't be telling you first."

Well, fair enough!

He did add: "It's been close to eight years now, it's been a long time. She's been with me since the second time I played Wimbledon. It's good because her dad is a tennis coach and he still travels on the tour, so she understands the sport well. She was was used to being away from her dad from a young age, so she understands that sort of distant relationship. It's worked well."

English literature graduate Kim is an artist who specialises in paintings of dogs.
