Simon Cowell has quashed rumours of a fallout between himself and fellow X Factor judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini.

Music mogul Simon took to Twitter in the early hours of this morning (26 November) to say that Cheryl is in fact a "great friend".

Dad-of-one Simon said: "I keep reading me and @CherylOfficial have fallen out. We haven't. She has proven to be a great friend."

It seemed as though Simon was glad to get a few things off his mind, after telling fans: "Before I go to bed a few tweets..."

The 55-year-old star also congratulated One Direction on their success at the American Music Awards, and Britain's Got Talent star Susan Boyle ahead of her new album release.

Both Simon and Cheryl made their return to The X Factor in August following a three-year hiatus, but last week, Simon said he'll be waiting until the new year before approaching people - including Cheryl - about judging on the show.

Simon and Cheryl, who sit next to each other on the judging panel, are often seen bickering on the live Saturday show. Even last month, Simon poked fun at former Girls Aloud star Cheryl by calling her "Kermit the Frog" after the famous Muppets character.

Earlier this month, Simon defended his on-screen banter with Cheryl during a chat on Xtra Factor.

"If I like somebody then I can poke fun at them," he said. "That's how I am with all my friends. So if I didn't like Cheryl, I wouldn't have fun with her."
