Cheryl Fernandez-Versini: "My record label won't take on under 18s"

X Factor judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has plans to start her own record label, but if she does, it will have a strict no under-18s policy.

Back in September, it was reported that Cheryl has planned to launch her own label to seek out hot new artists for the music biz.

And, as she gears herself up to take on the likes of her boss Simon Cowell in signing new music talent, Cheryl has revealed she won't be signing artists who are younger than 18.

Currently on the X Factor's judging panel, Cheryl has been giving her verdict on singing hopefuls as young as 14, thanks to the show's recently lowered age limit.

Not so keen to break those so young into the industry herself, Cheryl told The Mirror she would only recruit talent once they're of a certain age, to ensure they can handle the pressures of fame.

"Look around at the child stars – the record's not exactly promising," she explained. "It's too much pressure. They would have to be over 18."

But, aware that young stars can have what it takes to make it big - Cheryl's remaining X Factor act Lauren Platt is just 17 years old - the 'I Don't Care' singer has said she would still "nurture" those that are under 18, preparing them for what's ahead when they finally sign to a label.

She added: "I love the aspect of The X Factor where I'm nurturing talent. Watching the sparkle in someone else's eye and remembering you having that dream, it's such a buzz...

"I would nurture the artist before they put anything out there."

Despite being ambitious about her record label plans, Cheryl did reveal it is a long time coming and at the moment the idea is just in the pipeline.

Meanwhile, Cheryl has been preparing Lauren - her last remaining girl - for the X Factor's 'Jukebox' quarter finals this weekend.

For this week's Jukebox theme, the public have chosen each finalist's song choice for Saturday's live show and it seems Lauren will be taking on Swedish House Mafia's 'Don't You Worry Child'.

On Saturday, Lauren wowed the judges with her rendition of Whitney Houston's track 'How Will I Know'.

Dubbed her best performance yet by the panel, it's no surprise Lauren still had a big smile on her face outside of rehearsals yesterday.

But, will she still be smiling when she finds out what the viewers have picked for her?

Fingers crossed!

Over the weekend, Only The Young and Stevi Ritchie left the X Factor in another double elimination.

The X Factor continues this Saturday (29 November) at 8pm on ITV.
