Stevi Ritchie's dad has blasted Wayne Rooney after he publicly slammed the X Factor contestant online.

Footballer Wayne took to Twitter on Saturday night (22 November) and told fans that Stevi should have been eliminated from the singing competition.

StevI Ritchie appears on This Morning - 24 Nov 2014

The England and Manchester United player ranted: "I hope Stevi Richie wins X Factor, that will stop the poor acts going to live shows in future. Good singers going out while he stays???"

As it happens, Stevi was sent home the following night, however Wayne's comments have still riled the hopeful's father Richard.

Speaking to the Daily Star today, Richard said: "For Mr Rooney to say he can't sing when he doesn't know his background is a little unfair.

"The reason he didn't get through was a diplomatic vote. If he had gone through he would have been in the last five and he would have won."

Richard, a retired bank manager from Essex, also pointed out how Stevi had trained at prestigious London acting school Rada and had attended the London School Of Musical Theatre.
X Factor fans saw a double elimination on the weekend, with Only The Young being sent home on Saturday night. Since then, Only The Young have told Reveal that they believe the would still be on The X Factor had there been a sing-off.

The following night, Stevi found himself in the bottom two with Andrea Faustini and was sent home by judges Mel B, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Louis Walsh. Simon Cowell, Stevi's mentor, had voted to save him.

Yesterday, Stevi appeared on This Morning and explained how he wanted a job working for Simon.

The Essex telesales worker said he would even "make tea" if it meant he could stay working alongside Simon, who he brands as his "best mate".

Stevi said: "I'd do anything - whether it is [presenting The Xtra Factor] with Sarah-Jane or any part of it backstage. I'd do anything, I'm not bothered."

The singer also told hosts Phillip Schofield and Amanda Holden that he never expected to win the show - or make it as far as he did.
