Essex-born Gemma had been in the jungle just three days when she decided to walk, it was confirmed by ITV today (19 November).
Despite showing signs of struggle - a helicopter panic attack and a self-diagnosis of malaria to name a few - Gemma's fellow Only Way Is Essex stars had believed she would stick it out.
Just yesterday, Ferne McCann told Good Morning Britain viewers that Gemma was "not a quitter" and would see the challenge of being in the jungle through.
However, the star has now taken to Twitter after hearing the news about her pal's departure and told fans: "Nooooo it can't be true @missgemcollins was too entertaining to leave!"
Reveal's own I'm A Celebrity blogger Danielle Armstrong said: "Not surprised @missgemcollins quit @imacelebrity but slightly gutted as her jungle diva ways were so entertaining to watch! #ImACelebrity."
Lydia Bright's mum Debbie, who has appeared on TOWIE alongside Gemma and her own mum Joan, meanwhile tweeted: "@missgemcollins has quit the jungle no ooooo there was so much more to come. My motto! in your darkest moments tomorrow is another day."
Ex-TOWIE star Lauren Goodger said: "Oh no @missgemcollins wish u had stayed u r funny! In Celeb BB we didn't have food for 12 days just rice! But I can imagine the jungle scary."
Meanwhile, fellow celebrities have been taking to social media to speak of their surprise too. Former King Of The Jungle Kian Egan said: "So Gemma Collins has left the jungle already! Such a shame. She was so great to watch in there."
This Morning's Phillip Schofield has even branded the TOWIE star a "lightweight"! After hearing the news, he tweeted: "So Gemma Collins has quit #ImACeIeb after 3 days. What a shame, I thought she'd be fun, #Lightweight."
Gemma was seen arriving in the jungle on Sunday night's launch show, however things got off to a bumpy start almost immediately. After being told she would be entering the slammer with Craig Charles, Vicki Michelle, Nadia Forde and Carl Fogarty, Gemma suffered a panic attack before their helicopter had even taken off.
Since then, the star has been shown complaining about the lack of food while also telling her slammer campmates that she thought she had "malaria" following an eventful trip to the dunny.
ITV announced Gemma's shock departure in a statement this morning, saying: "We're sorry to see Gemma go but respect her decision and wish her well." Reveal has also contacted Gemma's rep for a comment.
Gemma's exit will be seen on tonight's show, which airs on ITV at 9pm.
