Stevi found himself in the bottom two with Jay following Saturday evening's Big Band-themed episode and the pair went head-to-head in the sing-off.

Stevi and Jay James went head to head last night.

Despite both his acts being in the bottom two, Simon decided to send Stevi home over Jay while Louis Walsh also made the same decision.

However, both Mel B and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini voted to save Stevi, meaning the competition went to 'deadlock'. X Factor host Dermot O'Leary then revealed Jay had received the fewest public votes so would be shown the door.

After the result was announced, fans - and even celebrities - took to Twitter to tell of their shock.

Stevi has long been considered the 'joke act' of the ITV1 show and many felt he should've gone.

Last year's X Factor winner Sam Bailey simply tweeted: "OMFG". Big Reunion star Dane Bowers, meanwhile, added: "Pantomime."

Stevi was saved for another week.

Stevi also received messages from viewers, with one telling him: "I think you should go, sorry."

The hopeful then took to Twitter himself and replied: "It's cool, I understand x."

But despite the uproar, Stevi has also received support too. After the result was announced, Katie Piper tweeted: "Woo hooo @THESTEVIRITCHIE is staying! #xfactor."

Stevi will now join his fellow six remaining contestants next week, with the theme being Whitney Houston versus Elton John.

The public voted, but do you think Stevi was right to stay over Jay?
YES - He won 'deadlock' fair and square47.96%
NO - Jay should've stayed! 52.04%
