Fans had been speculating on Twitter about whether some Photoshop magic had been used to enhance Kim's famous curves but according to Paper Magazine editorial director Mickey Boardman, that isn't the case.
He told Us Weekly that although "every cover of every magazine is airbrushed on some level", the actual shape of Kim's bum hasn't been altered.
"I will say, that is her butt. It is not padded. It is not augmented. That is all really her. But, yes, there was retouching to clean things up and make things look amazing. That's what retouching is. It's not building an ass that isn't there or taking 50 pounds off the waist."
Mr Boardman added that the photographer who shot Kim, Jean-Paul Goude, is a "genius with lighting" and oil was rubbed on Kim's bum to make it shine.
In a separate interview with Yahoo!, the mag director said: "[There was] much less [retouching] than people think . I've been interested in seeing people comment and say it's totally retouched. That's really what she looks like.
"Obviously to put a champagne glass on someone's butt needs a little bit of enhancement But you've seen her, she has a teeny little waist, she has that huge butt, and skinny little legs. That's her.
"It's not manufactured or fake. I would say it's the normal amount of retouching that's on a normal cover."
As well as flaunting her bum for the magazine's winter 2014 issue, mum-of-one Kim also poses absolutely completely naked!
Yesterday, however, she was all covered up as she attended elder sister Kourtney's baby shower in Los Angeles.
Kim, 34, was pictured arriving at the Montage Beverly Hills Hotel on Wednesday (12 November) with daughter North, one, just as her magazine cover was making headlines across the world.
