The Foxcatcher star became an exotic dancer after dropping out of university when he was 19 and says it was definitely a wild period in his life.
"I wouldn't say I was losing myself in drugs because I wasn't doing anything habitually," he said during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "Just experimenting. Experimenting, I would say. Never the big ones - crack or heroin. I never OD'd or anything. Never."
While Channing says he may have tried cocaine "a couple times", he says that alcohol was his main vice.
"Drinking was probably the biggest [thing]. I didn't look at drinking as a problem... But at that time in my life, it was, 'Let's go out and have a great time.'"
The 34-year-old is probably best known for his role in Magic Mike, which was loosely based on his stripper days.
"On a good night, [I made] 150 bucks," he revealed. "On a bad night, 70 bucks — even 50 at times."
Channing left stripping behind to pursue a career as a model, which eventually led to a successful career in acting. He is currently working on Magic Mike XXL, a follow-up to the hit 2012 movie.
The Hollywood star's heavy partying days are now far behind him and his main focus is his family.
Channing married actress Jenna Dewan in 2009 after the pair fell for each when they starred in the movie Step Up together.
Their daughter Everly was born in 2013 and the actor says they hope to expand their family in the not too distant future.
