The staggering figures mean that the 24-year-old's latest offering 1989 is already the best-selling album to be released in 2014.
Taylor celebrated the news by posting a message for fans on her Instagram page, saying: "Industry experts predicted 1989 would sell 650k first week. You went and bought 1.287 million albums."
The 'Shake It Off' singer then added a video of herself rapping to Kendrick Lamar's song 'Backseat Freestyle'.

Taylor recently admitted that her record label were nervous about the release of the pop world, which is a departure from her country roots.
"I knew I wanted to change the way I did things creatively," she explained during an interview on US talk show The View. "I wanted to keep people on their toes."
"I don't ever want to be presumptuous about doing well because then you might not work as hard at creating it. So I keep a nice healthy level of insecurity going at all times."
