X Factor finalist Stephanie Nala has said her early exit was the "right time" for her to leave the competition.

Over the weekend, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini suffered a double blow as both her girls, Stephanie and Chloe-Jasmine Whichello, were eliminated from the show.

But, speaking about her early exit today, Stephanie said she was happy to be out because she was beginning to struggle in the competition.

During the first live show, Stephanie found herself in the bottom two against boyband Overload and, following the sing off, she was saved by the judges.

But unfortunately for the 20-year-old, her time on The X Factor came to an end last night (19 October) when she was sent home after receiving the fewest public votes.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain earlier today, Stephanie said that despite being upset about leaving the competition, she was happy to go.

She amitted: "Obviously it was a bit gutting [to go], but I felt like even though it was early, it was the right time. I was struggling a bit - because I was so distinctive it was hard to do the different themed weeks with the kind of artist I'd want to be after the show."

But, not blaming the different song themes entirely on her exit, Stephanie said she thinks the competition is "very strong" this year and she wasn't even expecting to make the second week of live shows.

Despite receiving the lowest amount of public votes, Stephanie said she was happier to go out immediately, as having lost her voice, she's not sure she would of coped very well with the sing off.

"I was hoping I'd go instantly because I had no voice. If I had to do the sing off it would have been awful," she said.

Since being on The X Factor, Stephanie revealed she had received death threats following bullying claims from her school days and then for beating Overload in the first sing off.

But the young singer praised The X Factor and the people involved with the show for helping her through her tough time.

She said: "X Factor have been amazing they have got me through it so much. That's why, this week, when I went out there, people saw a difference to me.

"I just had fun because if you go home, at least you enjoyed yourself!"
