Rylan backs X Factor's Jake Quickenden: 'He's going to do really well'

X Factor contestant Jake Quickenden received the public backing of old friend Rylan Clark earlier today.

Jake and Rylan became mates after meeting on X Factor two years ago but, while Rylan went on to make live shows and become a household name, Jake was unfortunately sent home by then-judge Nicole Scherzinger at Judges' Houses.

Fast forward two years, and Jake has made it the live shows!

He won his place among the series eleven finalists over the weekend, wowing judge Mel B and her guest mentor Emma Bunton at Judges' Houses in Cancun, Mexico.

Jake was reunited with Rylan on ITV's This Morning earlier today, where Rylan was doing his usual X Factor weekly roundup.

Rylan said: "I really try and not have favourites and give opinion and stuff but Jake, I've obviously known him for two years and we got really close when he was on my series.

"He is such a hard worker and that goes such a long way in this show. Nothing gets handed to you on a plate and I know full well he's going to do really, really well and I really hope he does, he really, really deserves it."

Jake replied: "You're going to make me cry… and I've cried enough!"

The boys also cheekily admitted that their time together at Judges' Houses with Nicole Scherzinger in Dubai was spent in a whirlwind of drinking. So much so, that Jake apparently doesn't really remember a lot of what happened.

Jake said of this year's experience: "I tried to be a little bit more positive this year, because I think when I was on with Rylan, we did just get drunk! And I felt a little bit out of my depth because I'd only just started music and when you're put in a group with Jahmene and James Arthur and you hear them singing, I was like, 'These guys are good'!

"So this time round, I knew my voice had got better and I'd done gigs for two years so I thought I want to go in and just keep my fingers crossed. And any one of us lads at judges' houses could've got through so I was just happy [Mel] gave me a chance."

He added: "Anybody left in that house now can win the show - it's such a talented house… my worst enemy is myself and my nerves, I've just got to make sure I work hard, that's it."

"Hopefully I can just keep getting better and I'm going to work hard… I know that the two lads I'm with have got Whitney Houston's soul inside of them with their voices, and I've got Rylan's in me!'
