The Keeping Up With The Kardashians matriarch and her Olympian partner stunned fans in October last year when they announced their separation.
It later emerged they'd actually split the previous June but kept it quiet.
Now, two weeks after filing for divorce, mother-of-six Kris has revealed her sadness at the failure of that relationship but hopes to remain friends with Bruce and, possibly, one day find love again.
"I signed up for happily ever after and it didn't work out that way and it makes me really sad," she told E! News host Giuliana Rancic on Beyond Candid with Giuliana.
"I feel like I failed at something because I wanted it to be that relationship for the rest of my life. When I realised it wasn't then you want the next best thing and that's an amazing friendship."
"You don't spend 25 years of your life with somebody and then just walk away and say, 'I don't want to talk to you anymore.'"
Since her separation from Bruce, the 58-year-old has been romantically linked to other people, including The Bachelor star Ben Flajnik, although this was denied.
Kris said she's single now but hasn't lost hope of one day falling in love again.
"I don't have a crystal ball. I want to definitely be in love, I like being in love, I think there's no better feeling in the world. So yeah, I mean that would be amazing. But for right now I'm just happy and feel completely content with all my kids and everyone in my life right now."
Most recently, Kris accompanied her daughters Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner to France for Paris Fashion Week.
Kris was pictured sitting in the FROW alongside Kim, Kim's husband Kanye West and her granddaughter North West, cheering on 18-year-old Kendall as she walked the catwalks.
